Adventures by Disney and National Geographic Expeditions offer immersive, guided travel experiences for families, friends, individuals, and couples to explore the world’s greatest destinations.

The Destination Manager will be a member of the Land & Cruise team. You will manage all aspects of the program operations of an assigned portfolio of international and/or domestic travel products, which may include Group Trips, River Cruises, Private and Custom Expeditions. You will work closely with internal partners as well as colleagues, on-trip staff and suppliers to ensure excellent Guest satisfaction and smooth logistics.

Complex logistical planning and implementation as well as negotiating costing and third-party operating terms and conditions (including hotels, restaurants, activities, transportation), the creation and management of budgets to maximize profitability, as well as invoice reconciliation are required. Managing partnerships and effective communication with internal Call Centers, Finance, Marketing, Legal, Risk Management, and Trip Services teams are substantial components of this role.  

Relationships with on-trip staff and suppliers must be created, nurtured, and maintained to the highest ethical standards. Destination Managers are expected to hold suppliers accountable for on-ground logistical execution and maintaining brand standards. 

You will have up to two direct reports (Trip Managers) who you will mentor, train and supervise to ensure job satisfaction, high productivity and optimal efficiencies.

The ideal candidate is capable of working on assigned projects with minimal supervision and delivering on deadline. You will also participate in the revision/alteration of itineraries for existing trips as needed. 

Domestic and/or international travel may be required for this position depending on business needs.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Trip Operations – Land & Cruise


  • Oversee all operational aspects of assigned itineraries, ensuring each departure meets or exceeds brand standards. 

  • Update and maintain associated budgets, review and reconcile invoices, create new budgets as needed, and manage costs to maximize profitability for assigned itineraries. Monitor room counts, release dates, attrition clauses and deposit and payment dates for each departure.

  • Manage and nurture third-party supplier relationships. Communicate effectively and on a timely basis with global suppliers via email and videoconferencing. Hold suppliers accountable for maintaining or exceeding quality standards. 

  • Negotiate and confirm annual program elements including company-favorable rates and costs as well as terms and conditions with suppliers. Contract with suppliers on assigned itineraries on an annual basis; liaise with Legal and Risk Management to ensure contractual compliance. 

  • Responsible for the accurate completion, updating and communication of all appropriate documentation, including product builds, tour logistic notes, legal and financial paperwork, itinerary overviews, and training and operating procedures.

  • Strive to improve itineraries by responding to Guest surveys and staff trip reports. Accountable for itinerary-change management. 

  • Work with various internal and external partners to onboard on-trip staff. 

  • Coach, counsel and develop Trip Managers on expectations, operating guidelines, work product, company standards and feedback.

  • Oversee and review work of Trip Managers and on-trip staff. 

  • Partner with the Trip Development team on new and existing itineraries to ensure all aspects of the itinerary flow seamlessly from development to execution.

  • Work with Trip Services team to implement all trip operational requirements (including, collateral, media and on-trip staff technology).

  • Work closely with the Contact Center regarding inventory, Guest information and special requests. 

  • Work with Marketing, the Contact Center and other partners regarding product knowledge, trip operations and special events.

  • Review and edit for accuracy a variety of marketing materials, including brand-specific websites, brochures, and other printed/online material.

  • Responsible for implementing and overseeing established travel and entertainment requirements such as allowable expenses for on-trip staff and Trip Managers.

  • Support and drive business initiatives.

  • Responsible for implementation and enforcement of established safety and security procedures as well as company’s internal Emergency Operations process.

  • Actively foster an environment of diversity and inclusion amongst our team, products and services.

  • Participate in staffing after-hours emergency phone on a rotating, scheduled basis.

  • Other duties as necessary or assigned.                        

Required Qualifications

  • Three years of relevant experience. 

  • Successful candidates will be self-starters who are able to work well in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment with a variety of partners. Candidates should maintain an open and positive perspective that reflects confident professionalism and an unconditional dedication to providing consistently superior products and services. 

  • Demonstrated experience with coordinating complex logistics as well as strong implementation skills.

  • Proven planning and project management skills. The ability to handle multiple, high-priority projects, meet deadlines and produce deliverables in a timely manner is essential. 

  • International and domestic destination knowledge and travel experience. 

  • The ability to create and maintain budgets; comfort working in Excel. 

  • Demonstrated negotiating skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates should have the ability to clearly and effectively correspond with global suppliers, whose first language may not be English. Foreign language skills are a plus. 

  • The ability to anticipate and recognize problems, identify their causes and find creative solutions to challenging situations. 

  • Knowledge of the travel and hospitality industry.

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, 

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is critical. 

  • Ability to work on assigned projects with minimal supervision.

  • The ability to navigate a large corporate structure and associated processes. 

  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to partner with others. 

  • Experience working in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and common internet browsers and applications. A background using QuickBase or other CRM software is a plus. 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
