We are responsible for bringing the My Disney Experience Mobile App and Website data to life! In this role, you will play a pivotal contribution in one of The Walt Disney Company’s most valuable data assets for ingestion to big data systems. This data will help translate digital guest information into useful metrics that help create magical real-world experiences for our guests. Additionally, you will assist in explorations, recommend, and help deploy the next generation of “bigdata”, AI/ML, and Generative AI toolsets for CIMA bringing our team and department into the future.

This role sits in the (DTOA) Digital Travel Operations Analytics within (CIMA) Consumer Insight, Measurement & Analytics organization. It works closely with Analytics and Data Science teams from across DTOA and CIMA.
The Data Engineer II position will report to the Senior Manager, Data Engineering.
About the Role & Team:
- Within the generative AI engineering track, this role focuses on building and deploying AI agents and integrating with large language models (LLMs) to develop generative AI analytical applications that enhance data-driven decision-making and customer experiences across Disney Experiences. Leveraging tools like Python, cloud-based AI services, and agent frameworks, the role collaborates with data scientists and engineers to integrate these capabilities into existing data pipelines and applications, ensuring scalable, ethical, and innovative solutions that align with business objectives and compliance standards.
- This role will be powering big data automation, ingestion, and data quality processes utilizing open-source code such as Python, Java, and Apache Spark technology. Each role within data services, delivers capabilities to all lines of business within Disney Experiences. The role provides engineering across the realm of Data Movement (ETL/ELT), Web Development, Data Quality best practices, AI/ML enablement, and Data Mapping Documentation across the data ecosystem. This role regularly meets with business units and documents requirements which fuel the input to conduct work all the way through to execution and deployment of the software designed and architected to the solution needed. The Data Services team works together to build scalable and optimized software solutions that make large impacts on the operating optimization of the various analytics and data science teams. Each project is run to have an exponential return on investment (ROI) factor which is utilized to prioritized and determine project priority.
- The team itself manages and administrates over 70 cloud-based AWS Servers, we are fully accountable and in real time report status to Disney Information Security and must pass all security requirements while monitoring and administrating systems that support the broader CIMA organization. In lieu of this, the team also hosts a plethora of cloud-based applications on their servers for the broader CIMA and CE organization due to our dev/ops fast deployment capabilities and reputation for having a focus on the customer experience
What You'll Do:
- Assist in designing, building, and overseeing the deployment of technology architecture, solutions, and software aimed at capturing, managing, and utilizing structured and unstructured data from various sources
- Support the development of processes and structures to efficiently channel, route, and store data considering business and technical requirements, and utilizing cloud and local storage solutions as necessary
- Contribute to applying technical tools and programming for data cleansing, organization, transformation, and maintenance, with a focus on incorporating automation and advanced techniques like big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning
- Participate in establishing design standards and assurance processes for software and systems development to ensure data compatibility, operability, and integrity throughout data connections, flows, and storage systems
- Collaborate on reviewing internal and external business and product requirements to align data operations and activities with organizational objectives and needs
- You will be encouraged to stay up to date with emerging technologies
- May be required to provide support escalation, coordinate the ongoing operations, and support the enhancement of existing tools as needed
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of related work experience
- Understanding and experience with SQL, Python, Java, and Apache Spark for effective data manipulation and analysis
- Familiarity with relational databases and NoSQL databases (e.g., Cloudera Data Platform, Snowflake, Google Big Query, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, HBase, Cassandra), with the ability to work with data across various storage systems
- Demonstrating ability to contribute across multiple phases of development for complex projects, including technical design, implementation, and end-to-end testing, ensuring the successful delivery of data engineering solutions
- Passionate about delivering data engineering projects collaboratively, with a strong commitment to achieving team goals
- Effective troubleshooting skills, capable of identifying and resolving sophisticated issues with sound judgment and initiative
- Adaptable to agile environments, comfortable with changing requirements and effective collaboration across teams
- Proficient in Object Oriented Programming and Big Data Engineering Concepts with a keen interest in continuous learning and skill development

Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education:
- Master’s / Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
