About the Role & Team
In close coordination with the Assistant Chief Counsel Benelux, Nordics and Sports EMEA and (local) business teams, act as point of contact for (sports and entertainment) acquisitions and productions related matters. This includes providing legal counsel, legal risk assessment and legal/commercial guidance in the ordinary course of business.
The candidate must be comfortable with challenging norms and finding ways to create efficiencies for the team in order to remain nimble and accomplish the company’s objectives. The ideal candidate must be very comfortable counselling and collaborating with internal and external business partners.
This role will require you to be working 4 days a week in our Amsterdam office and 1 day from home.
What You Will Do
Manage and coordinate tender processes (e.g. by reviewing tender documentation, coordinating with the sports related business team and ESPN US as necessary, setting timelines, collecting required information and advise on packaging and bidding tactics).
Train/educate and keep business teams up-to-date on any related matters (e.g. by having periodic update calls).
Drafting, negotiating and review of (multi-territory) agreements, consistent with approach throughout the region.
Coordinate legal activities in line with agreed service delivery levels.
Sit in on the relevant business team meetings.
Strengthen internal and external relationships in ways that benefit the business.
Foster a ‘continuous improvement’ culture within the team, ensuring processes, policies and procedures sufficiently protect the business from current and future risk, while reducing the cost of service provision where possible. Monitors and advises on developments in relevant laws and regulations.
Monitor industry developments.
Drive enhancement of own and others’ awareness of such developments, in an international arena, and the impact of these on the business.
Coordinate with the legal departments within EMEA.
Coordinate with and instruction of external counsel where necessary, and manage such outside counsel and legal spend.
Implementation (and guardian) of workflows and pipelines, thereby adhering to defined processes and taking opportunities to improve them where available.
Responsible for up-to-date structured folder(s) and overviews on shared database.
Knowhow management and general administration.
Keep (sports) acquisition, syndication and production related templates up to date and reflective of any legal changes.
Required Qualifications & Skills
LLM
Minimum of 1 year experience in company commercial law and legal and business affairs, but candidates outside this range will be considered if they can demonstrate the relevant competencies (experience within the media industry is essential).
Excellent skills in legal writing and drafting complex agreements.
First-rate social skills in operating within complex, creative-driven environments.
Proactive problem-solving skills.
Ability to juggle competing priorities on a daily basis.
Ability to build relationships and be effective across many different cultures and in a variety of working environments.
Ability to act independently.
Loyal personality.
Willingness to travel.
Fluent in Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing required.
Another European language desirable but not essential.
Contract, IP, Marketing Law, Competition Law, Data Privacy and/or Media Law specialisation/expertise (in-house or private practice) would be a plus.
